Notes: | Label source: Guatemala: Motagua Valley, ca. 12 km W of Zacapa, 1 km S of Rio Motagua from Santa Cruz on road to San Jose de Zacapa Open dry thorn scrub, cacti dominant. Small to medium-sized multiple-trunked tree, 2.5 to 5 m. Trunks fluted, overall app, earance of a sinuey forearm, DBH 10-15 cm, open spindly crown, often flowering when leafless; bark greyish brown, smooth. Outer slash pea green, odourless, inner slash white. Branches and main trunks armed with sharp woody thorns. Foliage discolourous, da, rker glossy green above. Flowers not scented. Petals yellow, the 'standard' with orangish-red flashes. Stamen filaments pink at hairy base fading to greenish and then pink near apex. Anthers pinkish-red. Lower calyx lobe cucullate sepals reflexing on open, flower. Fruits green becoming reddish-brown. Several bees in attendance at 9 a.m. in cloudy conditions with slight breeze.
