| Notes: | Collected in Gunjur, a village in the SW of the country 2 miles off the coast. This community at the time was little affected by tourism due to lack of facilities like electricity and piped water. Craftsman was a local basket maker - for village use. M, ade from leaf blades of Rhun palm, Duhle (Fula), Ronier (French) Sibo (Mandinka), Ron (Wolof), young leaf blades are used. A basket of this size takes one to two days to complete. No tools were used and the coloured sections are dyed with European colou, rs. The basket was bought for 25 Dallasis (1 pound 67pence) which is believed to ba a local price. | ||||
