Notes: | Artefacts bought back from The Gambia - Leaves made for baskets like Cat. no 73483 - see notes for same. Leaves are cut just before the blade has unfolded entirely and are left to dry in the open for about two days. Then the leaf blade ribs of each fold, are pulled off (see sample enclosed). This process results in two pieces of palm leaf of two different kinds. The narrower leaf rib and the wider blade section. Both are incorporated into the basket. |
