Notes: | Label source: Report by Messrs Lewis & Peat, 6 Minicing Lane London EC dated Feb 11 1910 on samples of Cocoa from St Thomas, for Mr WH Johnson - No 1 good bright red, well cured, bold and well picked, fairly well fermented; break rather dark, about 53/-t, o 54/- per cwt. Good colour and appearance. No 2 nearly as No 1 in description, break rather thicker. Value about 2/- less than No 1. No 3 'Smalls'; worth about 47/- No Dark and unsound break 'weathered cocoa'; perhaps not dried sufficiently quick. Lette, r From Mr Johnson to Mr Hillier dated 16.2.10 - Dear Hillier, thanks very much for your two letters dated 8th & 11th Feb respectively & also for kindly getting cocoa samples valued. You however did not give a value for number iv, was this considered value, less or should the valuation given to No iii apply? If I'm near Mincing Lane on a Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning I shall call on Mr Mumford (?). I have already promised .... and see ..?.. and Potter (?). I sent the Director a 'bag' the other day. Ih, ope it is of interest for Museums. With best regards from yours sincerely Johnson |
