Notes: | Label source: Mogadore colocynth, Turkey, Spanish & Persian Colocynth cut transversely. The fruit, which is about the size of an apple, is at first green, but changes to yellow as it ripens; it is collected when ripe, freed from the thin rind by peeling, with a sharpe knife, and dried. Occasionally (in Persia) the peeled fruits are pressed for convenience of carriage, and sometimes (from Mogadore) the unpeeled fruit is imported; the latter, however, are usually used for filling the show-jars in the pharma, cist's window. Colocynth fruit: transverse section of young fruit, showing the placentas dividing near the margin and curving inwards. Seeds: Mature, testa removed & Immature. |
