Notes: Label source: From E Norman c/o Messrs Baxter Fell, Thames Wharf, Dock Rd, Silvertown. Can genus or family be indicated? F.N.H. 14.7.52. Opuscular source: Dr Howes, The vase is made of the wood of a species of Metrosideros. According to Maiden in 'Notes, on the Botany of Pitcairn Island' in report of its eighteeth meeting of its Australian Association for the Advancement of Science p. 267, 1901, Metrosideros villosa Sm. (Syn M. obovata Hook. and Arn. and M polymorpha G ?) occurs on the Island where it is, known as 'Rata'. In the circumstances it seems probable that M villosa may be the species involved. The structure agrees quite well with M villosa as represented in the slide collection. C.R. Metcalfe 22.7.52.
