Notes: | Label source: Galls on oak - No 1. Cortona, Sir JD Hooker, No 2. Castagnolia, Florence, Thiselton Dyer Opuscular source: Letter from Ormerod to Jackson June 29, 1881. Dear Mr Jackson, I do not think there can be any doubt your gall is that of Cynipsarg, entea hartig, sometimes known as Crowned Gall. This is distinguishable by the blunt loped tip and the border crown has short blunt points and is generally less than the greatest circumference of the gall. Also it is covered by a white tinge caused by e, xudate. I do not think the other galls you showed me were of the same species, but there is nothing resembling them in Magris Mittel?? I hope they will come back all safe. Yours very truly Eleanor A Ormerod. |
