Notes: | Label source: Central depression of Chiapas ca. 25 km SE of Tuxtla Gutierrez. Road SE of Chiapa de Corzo to Villa de Acala on the north side of the Rio Grijalva. Highly graded dry deciduous forest in stream bed, with Haematoxylon brasiletto, Leucaena col, linsii and Acacia pennatula. Large tree to 15m, DBH 50cm. Bark in brownish black chunky flakes on first metre of trunk, above 1m bark greyish brown, vertically horizontal ridge from which arise two very sharp thorns. Slash salmon pink, smelling of almonds, , cut wood yields a sap which oxidises orangish. Multiple branching from 1m with several erect branches arising amongst the secondary trunks. Dense crown with a mass of foliage. Young flush foliage soft, lime-green. Greenish inflorescences merge with foli, age. Flowers delicately and pleasantly scented. Flowers green with some parts tinged very pale pink, protandrous, filaments green near apex, pinkisk near base anthers yellow. Style pinkish red, ovary green becoming red, gynophore pinkish. Young fruits gre, en, tinged reddish purple. Some ovaries densely pubescent with white hairs, some glabrous (ie. pubescence of parts very variable). 3 butterflies visting flowers in full sun at 11 a.m. Flowers fixed in FAA Duplicates: MEXU |
