Notes: | Label source: This is an early variety, approaching to the Dunlop. Introduced to Perthshire from England, where, after several years cultivation, the stock ultimately fell into the hands of the late Mr.Black, farmer, at Rosiehill, in the Carse of Gowrie,, whose name it bears in that district, he having been its only grower for several years, until its merits attracted the attention of neighbouring cultivators, especially that of Sir John Richardson, Bart. of Pitfour, who, in the beginning of August 1839,, cut a field of it about a week before harvest was commenced elsewhere in that part of the country, and who found it to possess the additional qualifications of profligacy and superiority of sample. |
