Notes: The basket is pictured on pg. 73 of 'Plaited Arts from the Borneo Rainforest' (chapter written by Susi Dunsmore) and labelled as having been made by Melanu - a coastal ethnic group of North Western Borneo. Anyam gila (mad weave baskets) are also made by M, alay people on NW coast. The pentagonal 'mad weave' technique is considered extremely technically challenging and it is said that the female prisoners of Singapore Gaol are made to weave 'anyam gila' basketsas a punishment (pg. 62 of same book). This bask, et is double-walled.
