Notes: | Currently made for craft shops as a hat for sun protection, and formerly used by campesinos when hot pots were loaded onto the head for carrying. Fibre extracted from the pinnae of unexpanded leaves of palmicho (Prestoea acuminata), some with the centra, l vein. Sewn by hand with thread of fique (Furcraea andina). Made by both men and women, but men hide that they weave and do it alone in their homes. It is called stepped wall because the vein included in the fabric reinforces it, gives it more hardnes, s. The hat is also called 'kills rabbits' as the campesinos would throw their hats at them hoping to hit and catch them with the rigid rims. | ||||
