Coiled baskets are mainly made in the south of Nepal by Tharu and Maithili women using the grass growing there or wheat straw: on e long strand, natural coloured or dye, d is wound around a core which is formed spiral like into a basket shape. The core rounds are connected by stitching into the core below. Elaborate patter are created by overlaid stitches. |
