Notes: | Susi Dunsmore 1985 (2006): For spinning allo fibre 'jakilma', women use lightweight hand spindles the whorls of which are usually elaborately carved by men, often the husband or father of the spinner. Prior to spinning, the dry, clay-rubbed fibres are o, pened up: one end of the fibre bundle is grasped with the toes, the other end is put under and around the arm. Under tension the fibres are gradually pulled apart. Thickness and twist of the yarn can be controlled by the spinner. Often spinners can be, identified by certain types of yarn. |
