Notes: | Robin Hill hung shoots in chloroform vapour, enzymes release indoxyl (a precursor to indigo that forms in the leaf), then the clhlorophyll pigments were extracted with 80% acetone. This reveals where the indigo is formed. It is mainly concentrated in th, e youngest leaves (this is the same for woad too). x0Dx0AThis same experiment was also carried out on the flowers of Calanthe included. Some dyed wool samples are included. | ||||
