Notes: | Woad leaves have 0.45% indigo so from 2.5 lb of woad leaves 5 g of indigo was obtained. x0Dx0ATo extract the indigo: boil water, put in fresh leaves, keep boiling constantly, strain off water, cool quickly to room temperature, add alkali ammonia solution, be, at in air until indigo precipitates out, filter, then dry, or allow to preciptitate (David Hill, personal communication). |
