Notes: | Composed of river clay, the locations of which are kept secret. From a young age girls are given the cup shaped fungus Callana ala (Cookeina tricholona) to hold in their hands in order to become familar with its circular shape and thus produce bowls of si, milar likeness. Young girls are also given the Piton flower (Grias neurberthii) to hold in their mouths, in hopes of permently absorbing its essence. When chewing manioc the sweet qualities of the flower are then thought to be transfered to the 'beer'. Wo, od from the Pihui yura (Pollalesta discolor) is sought out in order to fire the pottery due to its even burn and fine white ash which will not discolor the final product. When still cooling the exudate from Shirquillu (Protium sp.) is used as a glaze. Thi, s imparts a sweet smell unto the vessel and seals it. Mucawas are then painted with a mixture of water and red, white, and black clays, the locations of which are even more guarded. A few strands of human hair (normally from a boy) are afixed to a twig an, d used as paint brushes. The geometric motif of this mucawa is a mixture of anaconda and turtle designs but many elements from the natural world are incorpated in other vessels. The images often refer to stories or events in their cultural history.x0Dx0Ax0Dx0A | ||||
