Notes: | SEE HERBARIUM MATERIALx0Dx0Ax0Dx0ACollecting notes: Brazil: estado de Rio de Janeiro, Mun. São Pedron d'Aldeia. São Mateus. Fazenda da Cavera, km 117-118, ca. 42°10'W, 22°50'S. Alt. 50m.x0Dx0AMata on sedimentary rocks, similar to mata taboleiro. An high ground form o, f coastal mata seca.x0Dx0Ax0Dx0ALarge tree to 25m, DBH 70cm, one single trunk first branching at 15m, crown in form of an inverted cone. Bark smooth, pathced white and shades of grey. Wood very hard, slash whitish. Foliage deep green, leathery; petiole and leaf r, achis yellowish.x0Dx0AHabitat being totally destroyed- trees being cut for charcoal and fence posts (includinf C. ferrea). Area eventually grassed for cattle. As in coastal areas, Chloroleucon tortum also present, with very similar bark but softer timber and, contorted sinuey trunk.x0Dx0ASame species as lewis 1623 but coastal specimen, multiple trunked, of lower stature and different crown shape.x0Dx0AWood sample taken from cut timber on ground (almost certainly from a different tre in the area) - produces a ringing s, ound when chopped, very hard and difficult to saw.
