Alt. ca. s.l.x0Dx0AMata seca baixa.x0Dx0Ax0Dx0AMultiple-trunked tree, 8-10m with elegant rounded crown (wider than tall, ), DBH 10-20cm. Main branches twisted and ± contorted, young branchlets with small brown lenticels. Bark smooth in greenish and grey pathces, some thin bark peeling away to reveal white patches of underbark and giving the trunk an overall jig-saw puzzle b, ark pattern. Wood very hard and dense (thus vernacular name 'Pau Ferro'), slash yellow. Young leaflets yellowish-green, older leaflets deep bottle green and subcoriaceous. Petiole and leaf rachis yellowish. Fruit green, maturing blackish. Old fruit rottin, g on ground also collected. Cotyledons above ground, first leaf bipinnate. Old infructescences evident (held erect) above crown.x0Dx0AQuite diffrent in facies to 'Pau ferro' of NE Brazil and different habit from Lewis 1619.x0Dx0A(may duplicates destroyed in hotel, fire!)x0Dx0ASpirit, fruit, wood and photographs. |
