Notes:
Bakang - medium sized mans carrying basket. Made by Ukung Sudai, an elderly man from the village of Long Mio, ipitang District. Tis type of basket is always made by men. These baskets still widely used (2000). There were perhaps 4 elderly men in Long, Mio and the nearby village of Long Pasia who were considered experts at making bakang, and still made these. They made them for other people in the village, and in recent years, have also started making miniature versions for sale to tourists. The loca, l price for a large bakang was 60RM (about £10). Although these baskets are still much in demand, only a few younger men were learning how to make them.x0Dx0AThe wooden back support is of kayu belibakan. The straps are of kayu talon (319), the frame of wei, peit (26) and te weave of wei darri (254).
