Notes: | Whip from splayed wood stem - utilizing bark for fibres of whip. Relating to Jodrell enquiry no. W141/694/96PG. Donated by John Hagan, in 1997. Collected by Benjamin Hagan, a Sergeant Major in the 13th Hussars in Africa. Inner bark fibres form the ro, pe. See file folder of Economic Botany Collections for further details. May have been used for the slave trade or during the Boer War. Probably predates 1911. |
