Notes: | Only Venezuelan population, otherwise a local endemic of Cartagena, Colombia, disjunct some 600 km to the west cf Thriza Ruiz report in Ernstia 58:41-44, 1990. Much branched shrubs 2-3m tall, stems 4-8cm diam. at base, with dense dark green leaves, now c, overed with hundreds of inflorescences in bud, few flowers, but with gigantic, avocado like fruits, the seeds of which are reported to be poisonous. Region of deeply eroded desert badlands, in the foothills of the Sierra de Barbacoas, at the NE end of the, Venezuelan high Andes; valley of Rio Curarigua, vicinity of Caseraa Buena Vista, a very small settlement along highway 1 km NE of Curarigua (23 km SE of Carora. |
