Notes:
Sieve used for sago. The sieve is placed in a series of channels made from sago palm (Metroxylon sagu) petioles and sheaths. They are placed in upper end of 'gutter'. The sago pith is placed into sieve and water from swamp is poured into the sieve (wit, h pulp) and the mix is mashed, turned and squeezed. Then some rapid pushes force the solution through the sieve and the pith is wrung out. The starchy liquid runs down the gutter into settling tank (lower end of leaf sheath) which is dammed. Starch set, tles out. After repeated wringings, water runs out leaving a block of solid starch. This block is wrapped in Metroxylon leaflets.
