Notes: Hat which, together with item 75788, illustrates a dwindling resource. Worn popularly by both men and women in the Ifanadiana area. This is a fine quality hat made with split leaflets of one of the two sources of 'lakatra' fibre (representative collectio, n from the same area Beentje 4532 (November, 1991). The other source is Ravenea lakatra, lined with Cyperaceous fibre (?Lepironia articulata), sewn with plastic thread and decorated with red cotton thread. Purchased in market in Ifanadiana in 1994 when, such hats were still available but the source of palm fibre very scarce.
