Notes: Orchid, Sunakhari mala, from Nepal. Tassels Jumka or Furka made of cotton thread are worn by Rai women. The cotton thread is usually dyed with madder, majitho. The tassels are pinned or knotted to the side of the garment just under the shoulder. The o, rchid stem or root plaited with cotton, is also used to decorate nettle jackets and to make necklaces. Shamans use orchids for their ceremonies. Preparation: After the root or stem was cut, an incision is made along its length. When dry, it is easy to, peel off the outer grey brown skin to reveal the bright yellow strand.
