Notes: | Japanese toy of cape myrtle and cucumber tree. Carved model of lumberjacks sawing a trunk. Passed to the Collections by Brian Halliwell. Toy is kobiki lumberjack. Toga village in Toyama prefecture, where an abundance of snow falls isori (a Japanese fi, replace) had been until recently essential to cope with the long winters. The people of the village used scrap wood as fuel for their isori. But today, cleaner, modern heaters are being used by almost everyone. Although the use of isoris has diminishe, d, the amount of scrap wood has not. Thus a few citizens of the village invented this toy to make use of the extra wood.x0Dx0APlants + People exhibition Museum No 1, Kew.
