Notes: | Basket with lid. Used traditionally for carrying food, and are increasingly sold to tourists as souvenir items. Traditionally split cane and bamboo products were coloured with vegetable dyes, however, modern products (including this item) are coloured w, ith chemical dyes. (Of Indian origin) Purchased in Thimphu, Handicrafts Emporium but manufactured in Bjorka Gewog of Zhemgang District. Weave of basket ot Neomicrocalamus, vernacular name Yula (Khengkha), Frame and stitching of Calamus acanthospathus ver, nacular names Krath, Gren (Khengkha), Gauribet (Lepchas), Munzi (Sharchop) Collected by R Pradhan, S Barrow, C Stapleton in connection with a cane and bamboo survey of Zhemgang District (January- March 1997).
