Notes: This wood sample was a cut off piece used in our accommodating guest house in Kololi village, Greater Banjul area. The wood seems to be most important in the building trade. Commonly used for roof construction and cross beams. The palm trunk is split i, nto small sections with a size comparable to the sample. We were lead to believe that only the outer plam trunk wood can be used while the centre is either rotten or softer wood. The exploitation of this palm species has at the time left a marked effect, on the landscape. In the greater Banjul Area and between there and Gunjur relatively few mature specimens were seen. However there were numerous younger plants.
