Notes: | Label source: See note books held in Archives from Bowes for details. Specimen of wood from Brazil, rec'd from Lisbon. Sent by Sylveira. Of the 3 species of Canela the Branco or white is by far the darkest coloured, therefore the name cannot allude to th, e wood; but perhaps the bloom. Pardo or brown is very near in colour to the vermelho or red, but the latter is rather lighter. The signification of canela being cinnamon probably the bark of these trees has some affinity to it, as the canela alba of Jama, ica. The wood is strong and that of the first sort closer grained. |
