Notes: Label source: See note books in Archives from Bowes for details. Specimen of wood from Brazil, rec'd from Lisbon. Sent by Sylveira. Arco pardo - Brown Bow Arco or Bow from its being proper for making bows, is called in Brazil Guira pariba it is very toug, h and flexible, there seems to be several sorts. The first is close and beautifully veined. Branco or white is very straight grained. Another branco which I have in the list distinguished by (escuro) dark seems as dark as the pardo or brown, perhaps the s, ame, and by mistake named branco. These are used for shafts of chaises.
