Opuscular source: Original Norfolk Punch is made to a mediaeval monastic Fenland recipe & includes over 18 potent herbs and spices steeped in the natural, underground waters of Welle Manor Hall. The ancient formula is kept to as far possible, even to picking certain herbs at the right phase of the moon and making decoctions, infusions and distillations after soaking in sea water. Today we make no curative, or medical claims other than to warm, relax and cheer, but the monks who originated it drank it for pleasure and for the curative properties of the herbs contained therein. They believed it 'cleared the chest, settled the stomach and uplifted the spirits!, ' In mediaeval days this formulation was relied upon to provide for the relief of most ills, including melancholia, tenseness and lowness of spirits. Best drank piping hot (See specimen for leaflet and more information about the wonder of the herbs!) |
