Notes: | Label source: Pipe made of various woods including ebony and lignum-vitae. Made by Richard Phebe who lived in Richmond from 1878 to mid 1950`s. Label source: Richard Phebe, life-long resident at Richmond. Born in an old house (long since demolished) on, Richmond Hill. Lived for many years in an old house (still standing) at No. 2 Clarence St. Small self employed brick layer, tiler, glazier, carpenter, painter, plumber etc. Articifer in Machine Gun Corp. in 1st World War. In the volunteers at turn of th, e century (Medical Corp). Practical with his hands adapting metals and wood to making objects, models, by the eye rather than to scale. What is now called folk art.
