| Notes: | Label source: This oil has long been held in great repute amongst the Fakirs of India as a cure for obstinate skin diseases and leprosy and has more recently been found of great value in consumptive cases. See pamphlet by RC Lepage Esq. late of Calcutta., Directions for use - Dose - adults, 6 to 15 minims. Children (7 to 15 years of age) : 3 to 6 minims. Infants, 2 to 3 minims. To be taken thrice daily, a short time after meals. It is seldom necessary to give more than 6 or 8 minims for a dose, but in ob, stinate skin diseases, leprosy and cancer, it is sometimes requisite gradually to increase the dose to 15 minims. To children it may conveniently be given on sugar. Where the skin is affected, the oil should be applied externally. In consumption the oil i, s best administered in Cod Liver Oil, but where this is objected to, milk or cream may be substituted; it has been found of the greatest value in the early stages of this complaint. All alcoholic beverages should be strictly avoided, also all spiced, seas, oned or salted meat, and acid substances. It is important that the Chaulmoogra Oil be persevered with and the instructions followed, when cures may be expected in from 1 to 3 months, according to the nature and strength of the disease. In some instances, it acts with great rapidity. When nausea or diarrhoea ensues, the dose should be modified or discontinued for a day or two and a dose of Castor oil administered. The pure oil is in a congealed state at ordinary temperatures, but readily becomes liquid whe, n warmed.
