Notes: Label source: See letter 88.1908, The National Assembly on the 14th Jan. last approved a Presidential degree granting to Mr Rafael Caldera G. a concession to collect in the National Forests, the sole right to export the bark of the tree known in Nicaragu, a as the 'Majagua' (Hibiscus tiliaceus). The trees are very abundant in the National Forests and although the bark has never yet been exported from Nicaragua it has always been used by the natives in place of ordinary string, and is occasionally madei nt, o rope. The process of preparation is simply by stripping the bark in lengths from the trees and drying it for about two days in the sun; the strips are then divided in threads of the desired thickness. By parcel-post I have to-day forwarded to you a sa, mple of the dried bark. (Extract from the letter HF Bingham, HB Consul at Greytown, Nicaragua 3rd Feb 1908, to Sir Ed. Grey Bart, Foreign Office.)
