Notes: | Label source: Kenya Colony. Local name Mugio (Kukuyu) Bush growing twelve to fourteen feet high, at altitude of 5,500 to 8,000 feet. The natives prepare the fibre in the following manner:- The sticks are cut and while still green the bark is then strippe, d off. Before the bark has dried it is broken between the finger and thumb and then carefully peeled off leaving the fibre intact. The fibre is then chewed and the gum spat out untill it is clean and the fibre is serarated. The fibre is then allowed to pa, rtially dry and then when still damp is rolled on the fire with a forward and backward movement into string. The string is then woven into bags. |
