Notes: | Label source: These 2 leaves may be Tetrapterys, but they also may be referable to Banisteriopsis. There is no reason to suppose they represent 2 different species, whatever genus they belong to. April 1950. Note to Keeper of Museums; Herewith are specim, ens of the twigs and leaves of the Yage plants of the Caqueta District, Colombia. The Asst. Director has the correspondence. JAS 15.,vii.13. See letter 369 1913, viii p134. Opuscular source: Letter 369. 1913. From TAS. I am sending to you some stalks an, d leaves of the bejuco yage, together with a letter from the Minister of Public works with a report from the Commissioner of Florencia in the Cqueta district. From this info it appears that the virtues of the yage have been much exaggerated. It is truet, hat the Indians of the Caqueta and of the Amazons make use of the juices of various plants for love philtres and divination, but the properties of the same plant vary in different localities, and there is evidently much fraud connected with their use. Dr, Zorda Bayon is apparently a gentleman of considerable imaginative powers and though there is no doubt that various plants of the nature of the yage contain opium and hachiss, the supernatural powers attributed to them cannot be accepted as a scientifictr, uth. I am sorry that I have not been able to obtain specimens of the flowers, the fruits or the seeds, I will try and get some through the Missionaries. (Letter, Mr Percy C Wyndham, HM Minister, Bogota, dated April 5th, 1913, to Mr Hill, received 14th May, 1913). Assistant Director - 'Yage' - See Rivista....Bogota Vol I pp. 294-297. On page 297 Dr RZ Bayon says he has deposited specimens of the Bejuco de Yage with the Ministry of Public Works, and that he doesn't think it desirable to send the specimen, s abroad. Apparently the climber has not been identified. Signed TAS. 29. vii. 12.
