Notes: Label source: Also 125.1907 Letter: The Imperial Bureau of Mycology, 17 Kew Green. dated 24th January 1921 - Dear Mr Hillier, I return your specimen of Lignum Vitae, which I have examined and compared with the specimen of hard wood given me by Mr Coombes, from Portuguese East Africa. There is no doubt that both are similarly attacked by a fungus which is confined to the heart wood and which is similar in the characteristics of the attack. There the resemblance ends, as the mycelium of the two fungi is qu, ite different. It is impossible from these specimens to make even a shot at the cause, but it is likely to be, in both cases, one of the larger fungi. Yours sincerely E Butler
