Notes: Label source: Letter - 4 Frisbury Street EC, EM Holmes Esq, Dear Sir, Your esteemed favour of yesterday I have duly received and beg to say I should have much pleasure in attending the evening meeting on Wednesday - but I would feel obliged if you would, not call on me about the Jaborandi bark as I do not know much about it. I will here give you the information I have and perhaps you can supplement my deficiency of knowledge and data. It is the bark of P. sellonanos the difference between this and P. pinn, atifolius is very slight or inappreciable and comes from Heigh Paraguay it yields true Pilocarpine as do also the leaves from Jaborandi from Paraguay. Large quantities have been imported here and are used by manufactures of Pilocarpine. The Jaborandi (Cou, tinhos ?) imported from North Brazil comes in smaller quantities. Some makers of Pilocarpine say that it contains a larger proportion of Pilocarpine than the Paraguay sort - but there is a difference of opinion on this point - the difference in yield of a, lkaloid I believe is dur to difference in working - I cannot guarantee that these facts are correct. Yours WB Cranwell. Sellonanus - I am in doubt about this word - perhaps you may see it described properly in Parodi`s Flora del Paraguay. I have this work, in complete. I will procure the flowers of this plant for you with pleasure.
