| Notes: | Opuscular source: Letter from Bidie to Director; I have much pleasure in forwarding for Mr Hanbury the root of T aculeata. The plant from which the root was taken agrees in every particular with the descrip no 479 of T aculeata in Wight and Arns ' Prod, ramus' and is a v diff sp from that figured in Wights Illustrations of T. aculeata. Leaflets, flower and fruit are much smaller than those of T floribunda. Roxburgh in the Flor Ind vo 4. I pp 617 gives a most admirable description of the plant, and noti, ces its employment by the Telengu physicians in cures of Hill fever. He says every part is strongly stimulating and could be a valuable medicine. The root bark is very bitter and extremely ungent to the taste. It is a plant deserving careful attention, as its medicinal properties have never been thoroughly ascertained - Its native names are Molakarurnay (Tamil) and Kondah kasinda (Telq). The Telugu name is given on the authority of Roxburgh, but in the Flora Andhrica of Walter Elliott it is stated tha, t the same name is applied to Cassia lophora.
