Variety of articles of Scotch fancy wood work, made chiefly of the wood of the Sycamore tree; consisting of snuff-boxes, cigar cases, card cases etc., ornamented in, different styles. Snuff-boxes, in various stages of progression. The 'Scotch Hinge' is applied to many of these articles. By the process termed 'checking', diapered patterns are produced, many of them in imitation of the clan tartans of Scotland. By the, style called 'Scoto-Russian', an imitation of engine turned lines, inlaid with silver, is produced, and the ornament being secured by copal varnish is not liable to become tarnished. |
