Notes: | Label source: M6-1930 Beans a small sample received from Shanghai asking for name as they were slightly different from what they had been in the habit of receiving as 'China Horse Beans'. Gilbert J McCaul & Co 9 Bishopsgate E.C.2 31st Dec. 1929. to H M, Ministry of Agriculture 10 Whitehall Place transmitted to Kew. Informed 'is variety of Vicia faba. This name is applied botanically to the Horse or Field Bean and the Broad bean. These received differ from the ordinary horse bean and appear to be a smal, l cultivated form of the broad bean which is commonly grown as a garden crop, but sometimes the forms with small seeds may be grown as a field crop and known in commerce under the general term 'Horse Beans'. 3 Jan 1930. |
