Notes: | Label source: Grown in the Island of St Lucia. Valued at about 2s per lb. Indigo prepared from plants Label source: Indigo prepared by Mr JC Moore from plants grown in the Bot Gard St Lucia West Indies. 'The leaves are fermented in a large wooden cask fo, r 16 hours or so then the liquid run off into two smaller casks beaten for 3-4 hrs. The precipitate did not form in less time, the beating being done in the morning from 9-12 or thereabouts, the liquid was left till the following morning befor being run o, ff. The indigo meed ? was them put in bags to strain off as much water as possible and afterwards dried in the shade on boards giving the sample as here represented. |
