Notes: | Label source: Sent to RBG Kew Aug 25.03 See letter 96 Fl. Trop Africa II 351 A.seyal var fistula (A.fistula, Schweinf.) Branches with a smooth milk white bark. Leaflets often 1/3 in long. Legumes as in the type 1/4 - 1/3 in broad. Nile land, Matumuna, Dr, Schweinfurth, who also cites it as occurring in Sennaar (?) and forming woods in S.Nubia. The stipular spines are very subject to a monstrous dilatation at the base owing to insect puncture. I should scarcely have reduced this plant to A.seyal were it no, t that we possess a specimen connecting the two forms in the collection of Speke & Grant. JHH Dec 23 1903 The stems of the trees, and branches are covered with a vivid red dust. The trees are not higher than average trees and were in full bloom in February. Seed vessels green in bunches and are greedily eaten by the camels. As wood the trees are useless, crumbling to a powder by, the action of a minute insect. Collected N of Feshoda about 3 to 5 miles from White Nile.
