Notes: | Label source: 'B' Bark of Quillaia Brasiliensis (?) 'A' Senuine Quillaia Saponarie Bark. Opuscular source: (Letter 259, 1920:xiii.p.175) Jules Cofman Apothecaries Hall Blackfriars, E.C.4 See Pharm Journ July 24th 1920 p.95. June 14th 1920, Mr Cofman, ac, knowledge the receipt of his letter of the 8th instant together with the two samples of Quillaia bark for identification of sample 'B'. In the absence of material of the bark of Quillaia brasiliensis for comparison, it cannot be determined whether sample, 'B' belongs to that species. The sample differs in appearence from the usual type of Quillaia saponaria bark, and resembles the so-called false 'Quillaia' bark, agreeing to some extent with the description given on page 79 of the Pharmaceutical Journal 4t, h Ser. Vol. xxx. It does not appear possible to name the specimen more definitely than as a species of Quillaia. If however, consignments of bark of the same character have been ascertained to come from Chile, there would be a presumption in favour of the, sample being derived from Q. saponaria, in spite of the difference from the typical bark, assuming Reiches opinion, that Q. saponaria is the only Chilian species, to be correct. |
