Chamaelirium carolinianum - False blood root - Showing annual growth and endogenous character of rootlets. Young, er rhizome - Transverse section. 3. Potentilla tormentilla - Torentil - Rhizome, and transverse section. 4. Polygonum bistorta - Bistort - Rhizome transverse. The student should observe the rhizome of Sanguinaria - a. The cylindrical shape and comparative, absence of roots, b. The colour of the transverse section. c. The inconspicuous wood-bundles. The rhizome of Chaloeirium is easily detected, by the greyish surface perforated with small holes, and by the transverse section exhibiting a well defined cen, tral column. | ||||
