Notes: | Label source: Sketch of a cyrenean coin showing the Thapsia on the reverse side. The gum resin obtained from the plant is supposed to be identical with the Laser cyrenaicum, ar Asa dulcis of Cyrere, a drug in great reputation among the ancients for medic, inal purposes. Extravagant powers attributed to it, amonst others that of restoring sight to the blind, and youth to the aged. So great was its reputation that it was put on the back of the coin by Cyrenean Princes. |
