Notes: Label source: Letter 17, 1921, XIV p.58 Sample of root bought as Angelica. RF Easton Ingledene, Hough Green, Widnes The sample, though resembling Angelica root, is probably L.officinale, or perhaps the root of some other Umbelliferous plant. LAB 21.1.21., Letter dated Jan 22nd 1921 - Mr Easton, acknowledge the receipt of his letter of the 14th instant and in reply to say that the root submitted for identification, through resembling Angelica root, is probably that of L.officinale. The species, however, ca, nnot be determined with certainty from the root alone. It may be mentioned that L.officinale is known as Lovage some particulars of which are given in Potter's Cylopedia of Botanical drugs p.173 (published by Potter and Clarke Ltd London) For expert opini, on it would be advisable to submit a sample to Mr Holmes, Ruthven, Sevenoaks, Kent. There is no charge for work of this nature at Kew.
