Notes: | Note source: No photo Opuscular source: Letter from Imperial Institute 5 May 1927 D/590: Dear Professor Greenish, I am sending under separate cover a specimen of Cinchona bark which has been received here from Uganda. It is stated that the bark was proc, ured from trees just over 5 years old which were raised from seed obtained from the Government Cinchona Plantation, Munsong, Kalimpong, Behgal, (Bengal), but no information as to the botanical identity is given. I shall be greatly obliged if you will kind, ly give me your opinion as to the variety of Cinchona from which the bark is derived. On examination here it has been found to contain 6.8 % of total aklaloids, including 3.7 % of quinine which is equivalent to about 5% of the crystalline sulphate. Yours, very truely Earnest Goulding. Letter from Greenish to Goulding May 9 th 1927. My dear Goulding, The Cinchona bark you send has the characters of C. succirubra and this is what I believe it to be. The percentage of quinine is high for a true succirubra bar, k but there may be some reason for this that we do not know. Yours truely Henry G Greenish. |
