Notes: | Opuscular source: Specimen (Letter 48, 1920: xiii.p.121) Feb 6th 1920, Mr Lynch, acknowledge the receipt of his letter of the 3rd inst and in reply to say that the 3 sticks from the Sudan, submitted for identification appear to be (2 pieces of root and 1, of stem) those of Salvadora persica the 'tooth-brush tree', 'Salt Bush' or 'Mustard Tree'. This is a shrub or small tree found in India, Ceylon, Arabia, Tropical Africa etc. Twigs are used as a tooth cleaner by the natives in Portuguese East Africa, on, the Nile banks, by the Mahomedans of Persia, etc. as well as in the Sudan; otherwise they are of little value and do not likely to possess any marketable value in this country. | ||||
