Dear Mrs Tracey, 'The chicle Gum of Colombia is extracted from two species of trees. The one that is exported in the greatest quantity and gives largest volume ofl, atex per tree is known here as Arbol de Vacca or Perillo, but of this species I rather think that there are two or three varieties, or possibly species of the same genus. It is of inferior quality and from what I understand can only be used when mixed wit, h Achras, when making the manufactured article.The other species is called 'Nisperillo' and is only a species of Achras. The tree is not nearly so abundant and gives only a small quantity of latex, but it is worth about four times the value of 'Perillo'., Signed Cyril Allen.
