Notes: | Label source: Root contains a poisonous alkaloid Letter 329, 1924 : XVI p.33 - Samples of two brazilian products. Manaca root is the root of B.hopeana, Benth. and contains a poisonous alkaloid, mandcin. The root, which is sometimes called also Radix Fran, cisceae uniflorae, is stated by Dragendorff (Die Heilpflanzen, 1898) to be used as a purgative, as an emetic and against syphilis etc. The sample labelled manaca contains some stem as well as the root, and appears to be correctly named.
